SCHOOL leaders in the country have been urged to focus more on instructional leadership to enhance output to achieve the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) set for 2017 and also contribute towards Brunei Vision 2035.
This was stated by Zaman bin Haji Gapar, the Acting Director of Schools, Ministry of Education (MoE), at the appreciation ceremony and JAPTIM Welfare Donation 2016 held at a restaurant at The Centrepoint, Gadong yesterday.
He said the MoE through the Department of Schools implements the initiative to enhance school leaders’ capacity through the Brunei Darussalam School Leaders Student programme in collaboration with the Institute for Leadership and Innovation and Advancement (ILIA).
In this context, he hoped that JAPTIM (Secondary School and College Principal and Deputy Principal Committee) can link their network with ILIA and Schools Leadership Unit in organising leadership activities so that the entire activity plan is in line with the implementation of Brunei Darussalam School Leadership Standards (BDSLS) by taking into account the current resource persons.
He also expressed his appreciation to JAPTIM executive committee members for organising the Work Plan Seminar 2016-2017 and ‘5 Roles 5 Mind’ workshops for schools leaders. He hoped that JAPTIM will continue to play a role to establish closer cooperation with school leaders in supporting the secondary education initiative towards realising the MoE’s target.
Haji Malai Shah Eran bin Syed Haji Yussof, the Chairman of JAPTIM, in his welcoming speech said the “objective of the gathering is to appreciate the contributions of retired principals/deputy principals and those who have been transferred to different departments or assigned at the Department of Schools. “The get-together is also to sharing our sincere condolences to members who have lost their dear ones. Just like the saying – together we stand, divided we fall.”
A total of eight retired principals and deputy principals and 14 principals and deputy principals who are transferred or promoted received appreciation souvenirs. Certificates and donations were also presented to teachers who have participated in the seminar and workshop and teachers who lost their loved ones.
Also present at the event were heads of clusters, members of the executive committee of JAPTIM, former principals, principals, deputy principals of secondary schools and colleges under the Ministry of Education.
